I work as an assistant project manager (APM) M25.
I was brought into the job underpaid and have been vocal about it from a few months in. I am part of a 8 person team with 4 of us being APMs with the others being Project Managers and Senior PMs.
Recently there has been a lot of hypocrisy in my team and has made the APMs especially mad as we are doing the PMs job while they come into office late and leave early or simply look at golf clubs on their phone while we work long hours and our expected to be on call 24/7.
During my performance review:
- Was accused of walking around too much and distracting others instead of doing my job.
Me – that’s funny because I’ve only seen you in the office maybe 20% Of the time since I started working here. So therefore I don’t think you have any right to tell me what I do while in the office
Boss – yeah isn’t that funny I’m only in the office that much and still know what’s going on
Me – NO you don’t know, this is all hear say, who told you this
Boss – that is unprofessional and illegal for you to ask, have you ever heard of the WHISTLE BLOWER LAW?
Me – remains quiet as I let him be wrong
- When bringing up a raise:
Me – based off my experience and various websites the my market value as an APM in this city is 75k.
Boss – here you go comparing yourself to other people again and not caring about your business
Me – astonished this just basic market value stuff that you apply to any product or service in the world.
My coworker is going to ask for a raise too. I’ll update with what happens. I’ll be leaving the company soon just need to wrap some stuff up.
TL;DR: Boss wants me to be a slave at work and smile about it be on call 24/7. Belittled me on how I don’t deserve my market value. Boss doesn’t know what the whistle blower law really is. Apparently stating your market share and how your under paid is “comparing yourself to others”
