I quit my job with zero notice yesterday.

Small business with shady owners. Some coworkers and I met up to hang out and found there were pay discrepancies between people with the same jobs/experience. Bosses also hired minors (for less money) because they're easier to exploit and treated non-white staff differently. I mentioned forming a union or co-op to a warm response, and we all agreed we'd need to keep things quiet for now and do some research. I mentioned forming a union or co-op to a warm response, and we all agreed we'd need to keep things quiet for now and do some research. Right after this I landed a job that I need professional experience in for my degree. Since the new job meant I wouldn't be around for any potential union vote or other organizing work, I decided I would ask for a raise and quit on the spot when they refused. They beat me to it by giving me a $1 raise last week, which doesn't even cover inflation, so instead I quit today citing pay discrepancies as the reason. When they were shocked/confused and asked for clarification I explained that “Basically, I don't trust you to pay your employees fairly or EQUALLY, so I'm out.” They do not know I start a higher paying job next week with good benefits, and I hope the bosses piss themselves the next time someone asks about pay.

I want to thank this subreddit for the inspiration to do away with any form of notice. I'm a nontraditional student with great work history, so burning this bridge was easy to do. “Oh, I was a full time student during that time.”
