Is this normal??

I applied to a line cook position where the Indeed job posting listed the range as being between $18-$22/hr. I was offered a position, and they told me I would start at $16/hr while I trained, and would be bumped up to $18/hr after my training. Who is coming in brand new already knowing this position inside and out that they’re paying $18/hr right off the bat? I’d love to know.

Is it normal to start a new position at a lower rate than the minimum posted on the job listing while training, and having to take their word that they’ll bump you to that minimum later??
