Antiwork

I just walked out of work today.

I work in a distribution warehouae for small household appliances. I'm an inbound associate, who has been given the job of returning to stock pallets of product that has been cut from orders, as well as identifying other issues with pallets on the outbound dock such as the system showing a pallet as already being shipped or a pallet ID not showing any product tied to it. I've been doing this since October, and this job was given to me by the Operations Manager of the Warehouse, or the person over both the Inbound and Outbound supervisors. I am also the only person on this shift who does this. Now, our warehouse is attempting to open up a weekend shift in order to alleviate the demanded overtime of everyone else (Been doing 50-60 hours a week since late September).

So the Operations Manager has temporarily moved to weekends in order to help structure this move.

Inbound just got a new supervisor in, he's been with the company less about a month, and these last two weeks, he's been nothing but massively disrespectful to everyone on the Inbound side of things, and I guess this week he decided to set his sights on me, because on Tuesday he comes and ask me what it is exactly that I am doing- so I explain at length.

“Well that sounds like it should be Outbound's responsibility, and since you're still an inbound associate you should be helping to recieve trucks.”

“This is a job given to me by [Operations Manager]. It's vital to Shipping Operations because it helps keep the dock clear.”

“Well you're an inbound associate so you should really be doing what I tell you to do. [OM] isn't our shift manager and I'm your department supervisor.”

“Okay. Then we can go talk to [OM] when he's here on Friday and get this sorted out. Until then I am going to keep working on the job he has assigned me to do.”

Note: Operations Manager was in the building on Monday, Inbound Supervisor specificall waited until a day that OM was not in the building to start this.

Same day, I went to the Outbound Supervisors and explained the situation, he said he'd happily take me over on the outbound side of things.

Then today. He calls me while I am at lunch and basically orders me to come grab a truck after lunch. I tell him no, I have a lot to work through on my job today, and cannot spare the time. So he comes and corners me out on the floor.

“So are you not going to come get a truck?”

“No. I told you, I have a lot to do over here today. I can show you what all I have to do if you want.”

“Yeah well I'm your supervisor and I'm telling you to do this.”

“No, I am going to continue to do the job that [OM] set me on, because if he comes in tomorrow and sees that it's not getting done, I will have to answer to him.”

“You let me worry about [OM]”

I continue to refuse him. He won't let me return to my job. So I logged out of my handscanner, handed it to him, and walked away, informing the Outbound Supervisor why I am leaving. Going to have a talk with Operations Manager tomorrow while he's in the office, gunna make sure I am officially moved to Outbound.
