Unions in the Service Sector

Ordered pizza tonight (Domino's) and a coupon I often use had changed to a higher price point. I don't necessarily mind higher prices if they are for good reason, but I specifically asked in the delivery instructions how much of that price increase wound up going to the employee wages. Led to a short conversation with the delivery driver. According to her, almost none. They pay minimum wage plus tips, plus a very small mileage rate for delivery. And the mileage rate had gone up a few cents, she said. So I asked her if she had considered unionizing. She seemed to have never considered it. And if occurs to me that this is an area with a lot of potential. You don't have to be in a particular union to help organize for that union. I don't necessarily mind higher prices if they are for good reason, but I specifically asked in the delivery instructions how much of that price increase wound up going to the employee wages.

And a business won't turn away customers as readily as it will union organizers.

I wonder how much good it would do to start passing union literature to delivery drivers, to gas station attendants, to grocery store cashies, to restaurant servers. I imagine it would get more traction than religious pamphlets disguised as tips.
