Parents just don’t understand

I love my mom. In recent years we’ve gotten close enough to just talk about daily life. She tells me about her crafts she’s working on and about neighborhood gossip about people I’ve never met. I indulge her and do my best to seem interested. She will always ask me about work and how I’m doing financially. I’m honest with her that I’m doing okay but always struggling to keep my head above water. And her response every time is to just “work more” or “make more money”. To her defense she has a point. But when you confide in a parent I don’t think one is necessarily looking for a straight answer and is more so just venting for the sake of venting. She hasn’t worked in over 30 years. My dad has been the breadwinner for their entire relationship. I’m not sure if she is so far disconnected…

My dad has been the breadwinner for their entire relationship. I’m not sure if she is so far disconnected from the work grind that she doesn’t know that saying something like that is aggravating, or if she really thinks that’s a helpful tip. Either way I still love her and she has been a great mom to my brother and I. Again just venting.
