we are asking the wrong questions

I'd like to entertain this honestly. There are good arguments to be made for UBI, raising the minimum wage, and wealth redistribution. I wonder if the these are distractions, though? A living wage just seems to be accepting too many assumptions from the outset. The question proposed presumes that capitalism is the solution. The question proposed presumes that capitalism is the solution.

The question assumes that tiny changes to wealth distribution in the form of wage increases amount to substantive change in the underlying power imbalance.

Instead, the conversation must begin by acknowledging basic requirements of any economic paradigm:

1) A goal of eliminating human suffering

a) and advancing collective good

2) A goal of sustainability

3) A mechanism for self-correction

a) based on skeptical inquiry and evidenced-based beliefs

Of course, all of this is made possible by a willingness to change and the willingness to participate in the proposed solutions once agreed upon.
