One of my first jobs was working at Buger King as the maintance/inventory guy, basically cleaning everything and organizing produce. The manager was a pain, she would walk through the restaurant and inspect every detail, call out small pieces of trash i missed and just nit pick and micro manage. Everyone dreaded the days she would come in, she would go as far as to stand by the door and watch the clock and wait for you to arrive 1 minute late just to have a reason to complain.
I eventually got fed up, found a better job and put in my 2 week notice and worked through it completely. The day after my last, I received a frantic call around 4am from the manager asking me why I wasn't at work and that a freight truck full of produce needed to be unloaded and stored in the freezer. She scolded me for not being responsible and threatened me with a write up if I didnt go in.
I was kinda shocked, disoriented and needed a second to process what was going on because I like to think i have a strong work ethic and wouldn't miss work. After I realized that I no longer worked there I happily reminded her that yesterday was my last day and I had told her 2 weeks ago, there was a long pause and her reply was that she though I wasn't being serious.
Like WTF, why did you not think I was being serious? Did she think was incapable of getting a better job. Those were the though going through my head and before I could say anything, she then asked if I could please come in anyway as there was noone to cover. Not only was I upset for being awoken at 4am, I was also bothered by the fact that she didn't take me seriously when i approached her and notified her i was leaving.
I told her I wouldn't not be going in and it wasn't my problem anymore and good luck. I sometimes get a chuckle when I think back on it and imagine her just struggling to unload boxes of fries and patties while freezing her ass off.
