Let go without notice

On Friday I was dropped from my IT job working for a cable construction company without any warning or reason. Even the termination paperwork showed that I was doing an acceptable or good job. What really sucked is that they did so under the pretext of me driving out to the furthest site I was responsible for to help somebody there. Upon arrival, this individual had no idea what I was talking about and I was then alerted to a meeting request from my boss. I immediately responded, as I was apt to do, and upon pulling up the virtual meeting, noticed that the head of IT was present as well. It was then that I was informed that they were “going another way” with the position and they I was to leave the company equipment on site. This included the car I drove in. This left me an hour and a half from my home with an empty bag and my phone. They did end up coordinating a ride for me, from the guy I was supposedly “helping”, which was the most uncomfortable, silent trip I have ever had.

In a way, I knew this was coming. The company was bad at communication and there wasn’t a schedule I was meant to adhere to. They constantly shifted their expectations, from a remote position to a bit more of a traveling IT job, which I attempt to meet at every turn. They constantly seemed to threaten my job, by saying things would be in my best interest to do or even outright saying they almost fired me (this one appeared to me for talking too much, after I was explaining that the gps location for the site was across the road.). Also company appeared to have high turn over unless you were corporate. In my short tenure, they sacked the entire administrative department of one site and then proceeded to fire the warehouse folks the next month.

I’m happy to be out of the company. My only concern is the lack of paycheck moving forward as Unemployment here is atrocious at best.
