I (38M) am a Wind Turbine Technician in the Midwest. I'm not going to say more than that, wind is a pretty tight nit community. 9 years ago i was waiting tables and hosting, rainforest café and salt grass steakhouse. man, that will make you hate people with a passion. Then I realized already being halfway crazy but smart enough to know it makes me perfect for the job. there are many quick certification classes in many states, i found one that was only 8 weeks long. After 1 week of job applications i had 3 interviews. Many fears collide at 300 feet while your in the tower its kind of like being in a boat you don't think about where you are until you stick your head out and look around. not only do you have to be not afraid of heights but also not afraid of electricity but also not afraid of tight cramped spaces. so now i have a job making enough money to own a new car a house its nice not having to worry about finances but the trade off is the danger i put myself and my coworkers in. I hide it because of “right to work” and “discrimination” and the fact that I'm in the bible belt, they're just so dumb. if i could get a nice safe job with the same insurance and descent minimum wage i would.
I want to help. what can i do to help? cardboard and paint pens for strike signs I'm on it consider them stolen from work. i saw the business cards with the QR i think i might do something similar.
