I’m not going to jail. But I am leaving the company. My last day was supposed to be the 31st, but I got a new job opportunity and I emailed my bosses this morning to tell them my new last day would the 25th.
Well, after work I got a call from a coworker asking if I was going to jail. Obviously I was very confused and said no. When I asked why she thought I was going to jail, she said that one of my bosses (supervisor, but not branch manager) was telling people I was leaving the company because I had to go to jail.
I’m furious. I’ve been a top employee for almost 5 years. I gave them over a month heads up that I was leaving the company. I was nothing but cordial with my resignation and my exit interview. I don’t even know what to do now. I know my last day is only a couple days away, but this is deformation isn’t it? Should I contact HR? The branch manager? Regional? An attorney?
