Husband’s boss wanted him to take unpaid sick days…

(Long time lurker, first time poster here + TW description of medical trauma involving a baby) …when he missed two days of work when our baby had a serious medical emergency and was in the hospital. He continued to answer emails and calls when he could and his jobs (he’s a supervisor on two construction sites) did not slip at all while he was gone. When our baby first got sick I literally thought I was watching him die, my husband had to rush home from work having gotten a call from the 911 dispatcher to get his ass home RIGHT NOW (one and only time I’ve wished I had a landline, I was home alone with our three young kids). …when he missed two days of work when our baby had a serious medical emergency and was in the hospital. He walked into the house with the baby unconscious and the paramedics checking him. As it turns out he was not dying but it was still a serious medical event and he spent 3 days in the hospital. Needless to say it was incredibly traumatic for all of us. He has recovered and is doing well now, thank fuck.

I should mention that my husband basically NEVER takes sick days. The only time I’ve seen him take a sick day was when we had covid and that was government mandated (so we had to quarantine for 10 days, and he still worked from home during that time). He pretty much only takes time off if I’M sick and can’t take care of the kids.

His boss emailed him about docking his pay two days and my husband replied something along the lines of “That’s not fair, let’s talk in person tomorrow.” And then his boss didn’t even acknowledge it and didn’t dock his pay. I want to say more right here but I just read the rules and what I want to say is not allowed

My husband has already had a phone interview with a much larger company and if he gets the position he’ll get a substantial pay rise and much better benefits. Trying not to get too excited until he has a formal offer but it’s looking promising!
