Is it okay to become an alcoholic or junkie at work if your job sucks too much?

I mean, can you really blame them? I mean, just decades ago people drank at work all the time, in all kinds of work, and they might have been mentally healthier for it. Edit: I've seen factories and warehouses where substance abuse is so common that management has no choice but to look the other way or else they won't have enough of a workforce left to run the facility.
