My former manager left this small company back in October. Given that I was supposed to take over his management level responsibilities I asked for management level pay. My boss told me he would bring me close to it but I had to prove I could do the job before giving me the full number. Well here we are months later, we've lost another two employees out of six, my role has expanded well beyond what I was told I would be responsible for, and we are struggling to hire on new employees.
At first I was offered the original amount I asked for back in Oct, I said that wasn't enough given the current state of the market and the current expectations for my work and responsibility. I was willing to take a hit from my proposed number for other guarantees as far as roles, expectations, and hiring practices. My boss implemented some of those changes but took back the pay bump offer and tried to tell me I had to go back to doing tasks that had been explicitly removed from my list of responsibilities. So I packed up my tools and walked out.
Mind you, this pay bump was 2% lower than the rate of inflation in the last year. This business is earning 120k+ a month with 3 full time employees. The hourly rate that I was offered and then denied? $20 an hour lol
