I saw a listing on indeed for the position I currently work. It’s listed as starting at $24.00. I currently make $20.00.
They approached me last night asking me to cross-train to an additional role, for no extra pay.
In my interview we discussed cross-training to additional roles, and it was described as optional, and would increase your pay.
However, now they are telling me that it is mandatory and will not increase my pay. I told them I will not be cross-training until they raise my pay to at the minimum, what they are advertising for.
My manager told me raises are only possible during annual reviews to which I replied “you’re going to pay $24.00 for this role, it can either be me, or you can bring on a new person and be short staffed for 6 weeks during their training”
They told me they need to have a meeting about it and I’ll likely find out tomorrow.
I don’t understand how these people think, it’s not even sensible from a business point of view. They’ve been chronically understaffed and my position is the only role that cannot be covered by management. If me or one of the other physician substitutes don’t come in to work, they are required to shut down the center, and production comes to a complete halt. They’re literally not allowed to operate their business without me. They’ve had a hard time keeping this roll filled, and it takes 6-10 weeks to train for.
Why won’t they just do the easy thing and pay me? I’ll update y’all tomorrow. If I don’t get that raise I’m thinking of shutting down the center for the day.
