I really want some hard math on the benefit of in-person collaboration, vs the time wasted on office politics

I keep hearing bullshit about creativity and collaboration, but no one talks about the 30 minute Zoom calls that turn into hour and a half long meetings because side bar conversations start up, or how someone more senior can walk by your desk and shoot the shit for an hour or two and you just have to take it even though you’re busy. I timed it last week, and I wasted 8 fucking hours on office politics. How the hell is a full day of work going down the drain on hearing about my director’s dog or my vp’s weekend, not less productive than working at home. I thought this was my dream job and it was for awhile, until we went hybrid. I get there are people here who have it worse than me, but I’m wondering if anyone else had a 180 degree pivot in your opinion of…
