If I ever need a laugh I just think about how I quit my first ever job at 17

When I was 17, I got my first ever job working at a Loans & Checking business. In the interview, they had me do a literal math and English test, like one from 4th grade lol. I got the job the same day and it consisted of me answering phones and writing a TON of paperwork for the boss. I did it for about a week, he had me writing about 6-7 pages a day per 4-5 hour shift (it was a part time job) and then copy editing another 8 or so pages. It was everything ranging from promotional coupons/mailings, and filling out customer reports. I also did a lot of filing, and responded to emails. The entire shop was just me and my boss, and people who would come and go throughout the day. My boss, his office was about 20 feet away from me, would email me…

My boss, his office was about 20 feet away from me, would email me any questions or things he wanted me to do, instead of asking me in person and then would yell at me to check my email from the other room. It would be some sort of remedial task like fine x document and send it to this person or he would send me a a promo he wanted me to look over, edit any mistakes, add quotes and things he wanted, and then print 600 copies of them, told them all by hand, then staple them together to create booklets or pamphlets

He would get irate if I made a super small mistake, or if I added the wrong version of some Bible verse he wanted, I kid you not. Oh yeah, he also guilted me into going to church. He told me I should go and I kept declining until he very firmly said I should go to be apart of the community more where I work. So I went and they literally prayed for Donald trump I kid you not.

I was showing up at about 630am to open the shop by myself with my own key and would have to get everything done before they opened at 8 and he showed up. If I wasn’t finished creating a promo or a pamphlet by the time he arrived I would hear about it when he walked in, usually by an email LOL.

One day, on my final day, he was in his office 20 feet away from me with the door closed. I just decided the job wasn’t for me. I grab some paper from the printer and hand write “thank you for the opportunity but I don’t think this job is for me. I quit.” and put the key on the note, grabbed my jacket and walked out.

It was as glorious for me at 17 years old as it is now to think about it. Perhaps even sweeter now thinking back on it. I think I went home, ate a sandwich, then went to sleep LOL. Never heard from him after that point ever again. Sometimes we drive by his shop while we’re out to eat in the town and I tell whoever I’m with I know where he stashed a good amount of golf and silver in a literal unlocked closet in his office. I only found out about it because he asked me to get something from his office and his closet door was open and I could see gold cups, pots, pans and silver spoons and pots and coins. It was odd. Like a damn viking with his spoils of war lol.
