I've been reading posts here for a few months now and can't believe some of the crap employers try to enforce upon their employees.
If you're okay with numbers and have a chatty personality, you might want to try the mortgage industry. Great pay and you're in charge of yourself.
You just have to be good at connecting with people. I started out in this industry last year after bouncing around for a few years. I thought I'd hate the sales aspect of it, but it turns out I love it. Someone you know is bound to need a refi or a purchase at some point of their lives and would prefer to use a friend to walk them thru it. I also chat with almost everyone in public and carry cards on me.
I work 2-4 hours a day, some days I just send an email or make a call. I charge 1% of the loan amount for my services. I live in coastal Orange County so I get paid very handsomely for such little work.
You will have to become licensed and pass a national test. Then you have to become registered. I started with a company last year and they paid for everything.
Then there's the generating you're own leads part. I advertise on Google.
I'm so glad I don't work for anyone. I'm going sailing tomorrow instead of going to an office. AMA
