Of course the answer is get another job. Trust me I’m looking. Also important context is that I’m a sucker and have been following the rules since August and a lot of folks just came back in Feb. Apart from their manager not caring – no this is a violation of their work agreements.
It’s petty I know, but it’s indicative of every problem in this workplace. We are all currently on a continuum of in office/WFH with the new rule that if you want to keep your space you need to be in three days a week – otherwise you get a hotel cubicle (everything tbd).
My issue is that folks right now lie about how many days they are in office – in violation of policy. Some managers care (like mine) and prevent you from having flexibility. Some managers don’t care and trust you. A lot of folks are honest. A lot of folks are lying.
Here’s the problem – I am forced to make a decision not knowing how any of this is going to be implemented and knowing it’s not going to be enforced (was told on a call with my whole office and have this in writing – yes I have it in writing that it is not going to be enforced).
Do I say “yes sure three days” and just do what everyone else does and still come in two (most come in one or none but w/e).
Or do I just say now I’ll give up my space so I can stay two days in – knowing when I come in all of the people who got to keep their dedicated desk are not in.
I know I should think about only myself I know it’s petty to think about what other people are doing but I’m just so freaking miffed by this it’s coming right at the time of our measly COL increases and it’s just another example of gross inequity in my workplace.
HR is nit an option – too much liability.
