I’ve work for this company for 3 years and in those 3 years I have gotten 4 promotions, but only 3 came with raises. I started from the bottom and now I’m managing other people which comes with responsibility and stress.
The first 2 promotions came with the same raise of $5,000 added to my salary. The 3rd promotion (which I was promoted to a senior title) did not come with a raise but was promised one when yearly reviews took place (the CEOs son-in-law was recently promoted to President and is now handling all raises). I waited patiently for 9months taking on more responsibility and more stress but still getting paid the same when I did not manage people.
Yearly reviews finally came around and they offer my another promotion wanting me to take on even more new responsibilities, but the raise for both promotions was only $5,000…and $2,500 of that was a cost of living raise that everyone in the company got.
I was quite shocked. I was expecting at least $10,000 if not $15,000 raise. So I said I was expecting a bit more from my raise with the 2 promotions. They told me they would have to talk and get back to me. Now my boss has a meeting with the president to discuss a better raise.
I didn’t tell them how much I wanted or even mention back pay. But it felt like a slap in the face for all the work I do.
When they come back with the new raise it has to be at least $10,000 to get me to $65,000 salary and a back pay of $5,000. Otherwise I might have to look for a new job even though I’m very content working there but not enough to be undervalued.
*not mentioning company name or my job title to protect myself.
