Offered a possibility to convert my overtime hours into PTO. Is this legal and what would the pros and cons be?

Was discussing with my finance team the possibility of converting any hours of overtime into PTO instead. It would be at my discretion so if I chose I could keep the overtime payment of 1.5x my usual hourly rate. Or any overtime hours I’ve accrued for the week usually 3-8 hours a week I could bank into paid time off. Obviously losing that .5 would suck but being able to take more vacations would be a game changer. Thoughts? Edit: I nor any other employee have ever been denied a PTO request and we are able to use it for anything no questions asked. Staying home to play video games, hiking, hungover? Thanks for the heads up enjoy the day.
