a thought about classifying PTO as an earned benefit like vacation, sick days

So I had “unlimited PTO” change to 15 days a year mid year at a job, and we had our already used days in the first half of the year count against us… so I'm thinking…. Getting PTO (Paid Time Off) instead of sick days and separate vacation days is a ploy to not have to give as many days to employees and to not have to pay them for earned days when they leave. Like you often have to do with vacation pay. Maybe something small and tangible would be to make PTO be an earned benefit or require they not be combined for a state…. Just spit balling ideas and thought I might throw this into the Aether… Edit: spelling/typing cause words be hard, lol
