Lie on your resume about employment gaps

As I got older (am 46) and my earlier jobs receded further into the past, I realized that no one is going to research whether I left a job in April, May, or June of 2009. So I have a few gaps in my resume. I went through a patch where I got fired, tried to start a business, and frankly struggled for a bit before I found my footing again. It’s never come up in job interviews because I don’t let it. I just change the dates on my resume to show no gaps. No one has checked. Who has the time? Who cares that much?
