Due to the pandemic, the state I live in announced a government funded bonus of $1000 for workers in my field. Initially, it was due to be paid out some time between October 2021 and January of this year. I was ecstatic. I live paycheck to paycheck, and this would give me much needed financial security.
My company finally told us we would be getting our checks at the end of the month. However, it will be for $660 and taxed. Fortunately, I'm full time, because they are giving part timers half of that. Unfortunately, I just put in my two weeks, and in order to receive the bonus, I need to be employed the day of the payout.
My last day will be FOUR days before the payout, and my boss just informed me I will not be seeing a dime of it, even though I've worked here for over 5 years. Even if I do manage to get the bonus, the company is clearly pocketing a full third of the money each of us was promised.
Am I insane? Is this legal? Any help is appreciated.
