Just lies on top of lies.

I interviewed for a position with a mutual fund company a little while ago. They said it wouldn’t be a sales position but that I would be making financial plans as part of a team to help sell to qualified leads that had already been brought in. I was skeptical of that claim but open-minded. First interview proceeded like this. Second interview, suddenly it is all about role-playing how I will sell to them. I’m mildly irritated after spending 3 hours on interviews but still open-minded it could be a good sales job, with prequalified leads. Third interview, I’m irritated pretty much immediately. The interviewer is asking a bunch of questions that would only make sense if these aren’t prequalified leads at all but I am in fact, actually cold calling 50+ people a day. There is virtually no reference to financial planning, just a bunch of questions on why…

There is virtually no reference to financial planning, just a bunch of questions on why I don’t have the sales experience, why he should choose me over his sales staff. I almost said to him, don’t because I just wasted 4 hours on nothing. I didn’t get the job and I more than don’t care.

Third interview guy kept driving home how many hundreds of calls they make and how they work crazy hours and aren’t into “egos” or vacations. He posted a company generated meme on LinkedIn this week with a made up story of an associate at his firm taking her daughter to lessons in the middle of the day and how proud he is to work for a firm that allows you to do this. Bro, I don’t even work there and I know that’s a line.

These hacks in suits are so ridiculous. Just lie on top of lie on top of lie. And what does it accomplish? They only want a certain type and whether those people even want to work for them or not, they’re going to see through the lies. It’s moronic and I’m glad I didn’t get to know them.
