Hello, I quit a job at this flower shop/ greenhouse a few months ago for a number of reasons; one being because I felt some of the working conditions were dangerous. Nobody else seemed concerned, and whenever I brought up issues it was quickly dismissed. This was my first “real job” (I previously just went to peoples houses and babysat), are these common and where can I avoid stuff like this? I don't want to deal with it now that I'm looking for another “real job”.
- I would fill water tubes with a bleach/water mixture and I was never told that bleach was in it and was never given gloves despite having to put my hand into the mix. (Idk how strong the mix was but I could smell the bleach through my mask and I was only informed after I asked if bleach was in the water.)
- There was a greenhouse in the back that had collapsed (presumably) years earlier and was never fixed or cleaned up. Glass and metal was just on the ground.
- In the front of the store there were two greenhouses that customers could enter and one day there was shattered glass in the middle of the walkway from when a glass panel fell out of the roofing and nobody noticed. I don’t know if any customers saw or were in there, but they had cats just walking around who could've gotten hurt.
- There was a hole in the floor in the storefront that was covered with duct tape. It was under a shelf but was visible.
- Only a few of us ever wore masks and when one of the designers was exposed to COVID-19 and seemed to be presenting symptoms yet she was still told to come in and nobody was told she was exposed until she was in the store.
- There was a backroom that the owners cats liked to pee in and behind what I think was a water heater, there was a drop of I think two feet (0.6 meters) with a few wood planks near it, but it was very uneven and I was always nervous to trip over there.
