Vacation King

My boss (56M) is overall pretty great. However, during the almost 3 years I’ve worked here he does this thing where several times a year he takes vacation days 3-6 at a time. Most recently he has one coming up the last week of April. I’m ALL about taking the time off that we all earn and need, but let me explain why this is triggering me. The managers who report to him turn into disrespectful monsters when he is away, and they’ve never been held accountable. He has one person who sort of acts like a backup for him, but they are moving in 2 weeks and we don’t have a replacement. There is a lot of daily decision making that goes on with or without him here and this job is so wildly stressful that we are bleeding employees – and yet he seems not to care when…

There is a lot of daily decision making that goes on with or without him here and this job is so wildly stressful that we are bleeding employees – and yet he seems not to care when I come to him with my concerns for the next few weeks.

I’m the hiring manager and we are down 15 employees for various reason, but a lot is lack of employee engagement…but my boss is still just gonna take this time off.

I signed our company up for a job fair the week he will be gone – he knew about this 4 months ago and said he would be there to help me.

I know what this sounds like. Why am I struggling?
