I've got about an hour to kill, and I figure that this sub will enjoy the rant. Also, I'm on mobile, so sorry if the formatting is weird.
I currently work for Firehouse Subs. I've only worked here for a few weeks, but despite that, a bunch of garbage has happened here. It would be easier just to list it off.
• The job's Indeed listing claimed that the starting pay was $11.00/hr. It's actually $10.00/hr.
• Apparently, the other night shift workers are begging for more workers. The general manager won't put me on night shift, even though I've asked a few times.
• I've filed for direct deposit a couple times now, but I still receive physical paychecks.
• The GM is hardly ever there, and when he is, he's usually goofing off and/or bullying/gossiping about the other employees. It's unprofessional and immensely frustrating.
• Whenever the GM /is/ working, he frequently makes mistakes, only to blame them on the other employees. Mistakes include consistently misordering supplies, messing up scheduling, and preparing food improperly.
• He once took me outside to tell me that I got a raise and to not tell the other employees about it. Whenever I asked about said raise, he refused to tell me how much it was. He told me just to wait until I see it on my next paycheck (which was about two weeks away).
• A gnarly storm passed through the other day. There was even a tornado warning. Whenever the weather got really bad, the GM left and forced the other employees to stay.
• He once forced me to work four jobs at once (preparing the bread, preparing the meat, preparing the veggies, and boxing the sandwiches), not because of a shortage of employees, but because he sent a bunch of them home early. I've only been trained to do three of them–and I'm only being paid to do one.
• This evaluator dude came to work today. I don't know what his actual title is, but he seemed like some kind of higher-up. Anyway, he was grilling the GM a lot. We don't have a poster displaying workers' rights here, and whenever the GM was asked about it, he said, “I don't care about workers rights! Screw them!” Admittedly, I think he said this as a joke, but it's still kinda messed up.
• The evaluator dude asked to see the GM's management licence, but he couldn't show him because he supposedly left it at home.
• This is probably a minor nitpick, but apparently, there's a leak in a couple of the refrigerators here, meaning that the veggies aren't stored as coldly as they should be. We burn through them pretty quickly, so I don't know if it's really that big of a deal, but I figure that it's still worth mentioning.
I submitted my two weeks notice yesterday. I received a job offer that will pay $13.25/hr. It's not exactly liveable, but it's better than what I've currently got.
