Antiwork

The place is closing, you’re all unemployed in two weeks.

I work at a pub in the UK, and to be honest the building is very old. We aren’t part of a chain, so we are very independent. I love working here, everyone is super nice, the pay is pretty good and the work is fairly straight forward. We had a team meeting today, in which our GM said the bar would be closing for a refurbishment – to which I thought ‘that’s ok, maybe I’ll get a week or twos holiday’. Then she drops the bombshell – the place will be closing for SIX MONTHS. Like I mentioned we are an independent venue so there’s nowhere else in the ‘company’ I can move to. Now in 2 weeks time I simply won’t have a job. I study full time so I need to work somewhere, and I honestly believe they should’ve given us a hell of a lot more…

Two weeks to find a job is nowhere near enough, I have friends still applying after two months and getting nowhere. Me and some coworkers are considering asking for some sort of severance package as this has simply been sprung upon us, when they for sure could’ve told us weeks ago when they definitely knew. Honestly a mix of sad and thoroughly pissed off.
