My SO’s employer announced a new policy that they will search the cars of employees if given “probable cause”

My SO works in the warehouse industry, so he works around lots of industrial equipment and stored inventory. They got everyone together for a safety meeting yesterday and announced a new policy that if they have any suspicions or “probable cause” they have full authority to search an employee’s vehicle because it’s “parked on company property”. This sounds so, so wrong. I’m thinking maybe it’s just to put people in a situation so that if they refuse the search, the company can simply fire them, or if they allow the search, the company finds a BS excuse to still fire them. This can’t be right, is this something anyone has heard of before? This employer is notorious for shady behavior and firing people for the most asinine reasons (at-will state)
