Oof – I don’t understand the opposition to student loan forgiveness

A new article popped up in my feed, I don't understand it, especially since student loans haven't been required for collection for the last 2+ years: “Student Loan Forgiveness is Welfare for Middle and Upper Classes” https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/3264278-student-loan-forgiveness-is-welfare-for-middle-and-upper-classes/ A puzzling except: “…there would be severe economic impacts at the expense of working taxpayers — including minority and blue-collar workers, who would be forced to foot the massive bill.” Only those groups? No one else? Maybe it's as simple as they want to keep us indebted in order for us to have a reason to work. 🤷
