My boss has been weird lately about expecting everyone to refer to the work calendar before scheduling appointments, which I already think is insane when doctors are booked solid for weeks out, and it’s pretty much a “you come when they tell you” situation.
That said, another employee accidentally mixed up the days and scheduled a work related meeting for a day when two other people would be out of office, leaving only one employee left. That is the assistant boss, with 6+ years of experience, and my boss is acting like it’s unacceptable to leave her alone for half an hour.
So she sent an office wide email out scolding us all for not remembering to check the calendar and leaving only one person in office blab blab blah don’t let it become a habit.
So I went into her office and pointed out I don’t have access to the calendar at home. So if I’m scheduling an appointment, especially an unexpected one, how can I possibly know what the work calendar looks like?
She immediately got defensive and told me she doesn’t have access at home either (untrue) but she adds all of the work calendar events into her personal phone so she always has it. She made it clear she expects me to do the same.
This is my personal phone. I pay for it. I’ve been paying for it for a decade before this job. Is it wrong that I’m so pissed? I outright refuse to add things to my personal phone to clutter it up and never know when my own personal events are being held. Not to mention, it’s just the principle of the thing – this is my phone. I’m not comfortable letting my work life bleed that far into my personal life. Plus, again… when my job either pays my phone bills or buys me a work phone, sure. Until then, absolutely not.
