I got fired while on maternity leave

I read everyone's horror stories here and I sympathize with every one of you. This happened a while ago, but I wanted to share to let you know that sucky bosses have existed for forever. I had just given birth via c-section and counting down the days when I could return to work. I had worked for the company, a nationwide “duplicating” company out of Overland Park, for three years. My boss was a guy who just appeared. He (picture slicked hair, fake tan, open buttoned shirts so he can show off his gold chain, those gold rimmed tinted sunglasses – even inside.) was the husband of the Office Manager (who, if I had to describe her, looked like a cross between a grandma and the human version of a lamb for some reason. Adorably round, short, poofy blonde hair, blue eye shadow, pink lipstick. She was the opposite of her husband)

One day, shortly before I was set to return to work, I got a call from my manager. He told me that my job was redundant and he was letting me go. WHILE I WAS ON MATERNITY LEAVE!!!

So, I called the Labor Department, because I was pretty sure that his doing so was illegal. It was – as long as the company that you work for has more than 50 employees within a 50-mile radius.

I was number 50.

All these years later, I still hate that man and curse his whole family (I was let go to make room for the daughter). Lesson – make sure that you work for a company with more than 50 people.
