Long story short, I work as a cleaner at a company, part time along side my studies. My employer has been really good until recently. Being paid minimum wage wasn’t an issue for me, until the costs of everything started rising. Which means that the wages I get are making my job unviable, a pay rise seems out of the question too.
They have recently started to refuse to pay overtime at all, not even half an hours worth which is like a few bucks, claiming that they cannot afford to, which I don’t believe for a second. They also seem to favourite other coworkers, as if I don’t meet their expectation of getting loads of cleaning done in an unrealistic amount of time the management aren’t pleased. Yet if another coworker of mine shows up late, messes around and doesn’t get much cleaning done, they seem to be more lienient. This coworker was also paid overtime during an incident that occurred recently.
I have also heard from another coworker that a manager has told them they are going to cut my hours in half, but I have not been told a thing by management.
I have exams coming up, so unfortunately I don’t have time to look for another job, however if it turns out that they do cut my hours, this will only ensure that I do find somewhere else when my exams are over.
