Store will remain nameless (for now) but is located in small-ish Southern town USA. I still can't believe I saw this. The store was very crowded and this cashier, who was a young girl, maybe 23, was kind of flustered and taking a long time ringing people up and making mistakes, which was only making her more flustered. People were kind of irritated, but no one was being outwardly rude.
Then this manager (fat bald white guy) comes storming up and grabs her with both hands by the vest and shakes her, screaming about what's the holdup, she's been there a week already and they have special needs people who can learn the ropes faster, etc. He's like shouting this at her and everyone's standing there in line, completely shocked. Then he slaps her across the face, and leans in really close and screams, “Get with it or you're gone!” and then storms off again.
The girl was openly crying now and it got really quiet. When it was my turn, I asked if she was OK and did she need anything. She barely looked up and just nodded and said “I'm fine” in this really small voice, and continued scanning my items.
It all happened so fast, and I feel really guilt because I feel like I should have done something. But I was just in a state of shock, I guess. I saw a couple people in line leave their stuff and follow the manager, and they looked really angry. But I don't know what happened or if they called the police, etc.
I've been a long-time lurker of this sub, and I really believe in the movement, but I've never seen any of the things yall post about until now. Things really have to change. This is so uncalled for and abusive. We have to rise up and stop this.
EDIT: Just to mention – I did see a police car pull up to the store as I was leaving. Yes. I should have called them myself. But I didnt because I was shocked and scared. It's a big regret but it was a relaly tramatic experience for all involved, esp that poor cashier. I will be calling the police tonight to make a report about what happened. im 17 so i guess part of me was thinking that they wouldn't take a minor seriously
I know this story sounds unbelievable and I'm having trouble reliving the play by play myself. but it assuredly did happen and im just trying to process it. i will be making a police report today. i am sorry i didnt do something then, and always thought i would have, but it was lik ei was watching a movie or something. i cant believed i saw this really happen
