So I'm gearing up for a big move and am trying to have a job lined up. I got an interview with this one company who wanted to schedule a Zoom interview with me for today at 10 AM EST. Great, one possibility lined up!
Earlier this morning, they sent me a questionnaire to fill out, which I did. And then 10 AM came. I was dressed nice, hair brushed, camera ready. I was waiting for the interview to start.
Then it was 10:10.
Then it was 10:20.
Then it was 10:30.
Then it was 10:45.
At that point, I officially became annoyed and left the Zoom chat that was waiting for a host.
I guess I wouldn't be so mad if it weren't for the fact us workers are held to such strict standards these days by employers. If I was 45 minutes late to the interview, do you think they'd hire me? I absolutely doubt it. They'd probably be on another interview by then. But it goes both ways. I have shit to do today and I was left in the dark for 45 minutes. I even messaged them a couple times to let them know I was in the call waiting. No response. I try to be reasonable because I get it: life happens. But without communication, what am I supposed to do? Nothing? I hope they have the best excuse imaginable, but until then, I'm not interested in the position anymore.
