So I had been severely underpaid for the entire year I worked in this position, I took it out of desperation and a need to gather work experience right out of college, and with my one year coming up I was looking to move on. Both because I was underpaid as well as I felt like I had nothing more to learn from these people in my field.
Then I was 3 interview rounds deep with a much more established and better paying company, including a major presentation style interview that took me 5 hours, and they even asked when I could start. The last step they needed was to call my references and I suppose confirm my resume was real. Since I had no other work experience besides an internship I gave my current employer, my teammate, and my supervisor from the internship.
Obviously since they would be receiving a reference call I had to let my employer know I had been looking, and in the message I was gracious and professional and let them know it was not my 2 weeks notice and that I did not plan to give one until I had an offer. In response to that my boss said “Send me your two weeks now and don't come in on Monday” effectively firing me on the spot, but making me do it in order to fuck me over as hard as possible. I went along with this because I still needed him to take the reference call.
Then the next week I find out that I did not get the job I was sure I had, and now I was out of work. Since I had been fired I applied for unemployment and my former boss successfully screwed me out of unemployment benefits by claiming I “quit to find another job” and now I am 2 months from eviction.
