I live in DC, so naturally the job market for politics, government contractors, and also pharma if you go into Maryland, is always red hot. I went to college in Texas and people I know there are seeking jobs in these fields and I’ve told them to move to an area that has those jobs available (obviously offering DC as a suggestion). They just laugh and roll their eyes.
If they wanted to work in energy, it would make sense, but I find it hard to feel sympathy that they’re having difficulty in their job search trying to work in pharma, politics and government contracting in a state where there isn’t a lot of job opportunity in that field.
So, should people be more open to moving to find a job in their field?
