I work at a salaried position in the devil trade, Commercial Real Estate. I’m not planning on staying for more than another year, I have my exit strategy.
My coworkers, I feel sad for them. They eat, breathe, and their pulse is tied to their work. 7pm, they are online, and getting emails at 5am is by no means uncommon. I sign on at 8am and sign off at 4pm (remote worker) and I’m judged for it. I’m tired of the sassy remarks and hand waving because I’m not “putting in the effort”.
I wonder what people do when they work for so long. I’m easily able to get my work done, and everyone else drones on and on about how much they still have to do. Do they really have that much or are they just terrible at time management?
I leave on time because I cherish my time with my family. Every minute I spend away from work is precious. I feel sad for them, when we get to the end of our lives, will we be happy we put in the extra three hours of work a days, or will we be grateful for those extra moments spent with what matters, the relationships with your family and friends.
TLDR: coworkers are corp symps and it’s exhausting.
