I am a mid-level manager at my work. My manager reports to the CEO. It’s a large company. The CEO occasionally goes around the normal lines of communication and emails me directly to ask something. My manager is a control freak and wants me to run every bit of communication by him before I respond to the CEO. My manager is busy, so sometimes this means I have to wait for them for hours to proof read my message before I can respond to the CEO. I feel like the CEO is probably wondering why I’m taking so long to respond to simple questions. Today the CEO needed something quickly, so I responded right away. When my manager heard, he lost his mind that I didn’t let him read my response first. I’m just trying to do my job the best I can, but my manager is so afraid of his image that he can’t stand not controlling every bit of communication that goes from his team to the CEO. This kind of petty B.S. is driving me crazy, and I had to vent. Please tell me I’m not crazy.
