ADVERTISING CAUSES THERAPY

…So says the Armenian-American band, System of a Down. But think about it for a second, really — we are constantly BOMBARDED by advertisements, mostly from giant corporations (rather than small businesses) who exploit their employees, paying them the bare minimum as profits continue to rise (their goal being infinite expansion within a finite system). Shareholders and CEO's sit pretty, sipping their dirty martinis and eating charcuterie on their megayachts while millions starve globally, and millions of others struggle just to get by. They really on OUR labor yet they see us as mere cogs in the machine, and treat us accordingly. Consume, consume, consume, peasants. All of this is destructive to the psyche, yet in many countries we lack even the most basic access to mental health care. What are we to do but revolt? Yet they keep us working, working, working…too tired to take action, too divided to…
