This happened last year and I have moved on from the job I’m going to write about.
I worked at a hospital in the food service department for about 20 years and during the last 7 years it had been passed off to several contract companies. The last company had benefits so bad, that they did not meet the minimum requirements for people that lived in the state. It was just bad all around.
I had been working as the sous chef for a few years, but we didn’t have a chef. I started to struggle bad with depression in the end of 2020 (can’t imagine why) and by May of 2021 was ready to throw in the towel.
I told our regional director on May 6th that I was going to stick around through the summer and my last day would be in August. I was told that it was ‘inappropriate’ to give such a long notice and that my last day will be June 10th.
So what I’m asking here is: Doesn’t this change the manner of my employment with that company from me leaving to me being fired? I did not choose the way I left, it was chosen for me. I did not choose my last day, I was TOLD what my last day would be.
