Can my (german) employer make me repair the company’s mobile phone?

I live in Germany and work in a human size company here. I already resigned (nothing to do with this story) and I still have 5 working days here. When I started, they gave me a mobile phone (very common for my position) without a cover or a protective film and I didn’t bother buying any. Last week, my work mobile phone fell from my hand in the stairways outside of the working hours and got a series of bad smashes. It still works but now it looks real bad from both sides. I reported the issue to HR responsible and she got a bit mad but wrote me to bring it as it is in my last day. A few days later her assistant sent me an email, telling that her boss told her about the accident and the fact that “i must repair the glass”, asking if “I…

I checked my contract and there is no mention of the mobile phone. I didn’t sign anything either at reception.

P.S.: My employer and boss have always been nice with me, but HR is… HR, you know…
