So I work for a major grocery retailer in Texas. I moved to my new position in receiving in August after being with the company for a few years. My boss decided in February that she was leaving the company and started using her vacation time since our company decided it would no longer repay out vacations starting this year. She gave them plenty of time to find a replacement, but I have been running the department while she used her PTO. Interview day arrives at 1:45pm and I work 3:30-noon. Instead of going home to shower and look over stuff for the interview, I stay and pick up a bunch of crates that had fallen over in the receiving area that the wind had blown over because I’m a team player (and nobody else was doing it). Instead of naming me for the replacement, which I feel like I had earned, they promoted somebody who
has no experience in my department at all to run it.
Later I found out that they found him out on the sales floor and asked him to apply for the job, which he didn’t want to do because he didn’t want to piss me off. But he applied, interviewed, and took the offer so he’s now my boss and the leaders’ response was essentially “well if you get along with him, it would really reflect well on your character,” and “well if you think we chose wrong, then prove us wrong.”
So I’m fielding offers from multiple other companies, some of which pay $20k more per year than I’m making now.
