My work created a new pay scale with levels so that employees can see where they and others are at. My department has 4 pay levels. Level 1: 15.50-18. Level 2: 17-19.50. Level 3: 19-23.75. Level 4: 24-26.50. There are around 18 employees in my department and only 2 are at level 4.
I appreciate having some transparency but the overlap is what kills me. I'm currently level 2( I'm actually level 3 in skill but my manager put me at level 2 so I would have room for more raises. This pay scale didn't exist at the time) I have 10 yrs experience and do my job well with few mistakes. I make 18.50/HR. Based on the scale a new hire with very little experience could be hired at 18. Kind of insulting. I was hired for 13.50 8 yrs ago and had to work swing shift for the first 6 yrs. Things have changed and I'm grandfathered-in to lower wages. I'm applying for other jobs in the area.
