Blue collar shifts start at 6 am. WHY?

“Nobody wants to work manufacturing” they say. Yet the plant shifts start at 6 am. While some jobs in farming/forestry are daylight dependent or animal cycle dependent, this isn't the case for indoor manufacturing jobs which also start at ungodly hours. Is this really necessary or it's an hierarchy thing?
