what more could they have wanted from me?

For 3 years i worked installing hardwood floors. I was always told my work was amazing, quick, and that i was the hardest worker on the team. Long story short, life went upside down and fucked me over, and i started a job installing fences for 5 less than i made doing floors. On my first day we had a safety meeting at the office, and then i went with a crew to install a picket fence. Once i got the hang of it i started going pretty fast. The second day i clocked in and went to the meeting area expecting another morning meeting where hed tell us what jobs we are doing, like on monday.

No this time the owners son, who is the manager goes off on me and tells me “we dont sit down after clocking in, you shouldve been getting all the trucks started, checking their oil, and getting all the supllies ready.

Not a single person had told me that, no one even told me what job we were doing, who i was with, or what supplies i needed to help get.

So that day we did a chain link fence, and again once i figured out how to do everything i picked it up alright.

Now on both days, my 2 coworkers have told me the owner is a cheapass bitch and doesnt pay for shit, that is what they said to my face. So i replied “haha yea, the lady i applied with said theyd start me out at 15 an hour but the owner son told me 12 an hour” that is all i said.

Well wednesday, my 3rd day rolls around, i go in there with more of an idea of what im doing, and i do it. I was working so hard today i actually had to slow down and wait on ny coworkers.

The owners son comes up to the job in his shiny new truck and pulls me aside, i was expecting it to be a little meeting seeing hoe i like the job. “Hey so whats going on?” Is what he asked, in an annoyed way which threw me off guard since i was expecting it to be a good conversation.

He told me i was going slow, and that im like the slowest runner in football and ruining it for the team because the others are having to slow down for me.

So i told him “i didnt think i was going slow but even if i am, monday was the first time i have ever installed a picket fence, tuesday was the first time i have ever installed a chainlink fence. I think its understandable someone would be slower while training than someone thats been installing for years.”

Then he says “some of the guys are also saying youre complaining about pay”

So i said “they said that? No, they were calling you a cheapskate and saying you dont pay for shit, all i did was reply the lady at the office told me id get 15 and you told me id get 12”

He got pissed and said “we dont talk about pay here”

So i quit. Ive had the worst month of my life and am far too depressed to let someone treat me like shit. I guess when you have nothing to live for its easier to stand up for yourself
