less work, less stress

i work for a minimum wage employer and right now, the demand on our staff is simply too much. it's basically like the christmas season all over again since we're working short and getting huge shipments every day. last friday, i left because i was too exhausted to finish the day and it was a huge wake-up call for me. i'm burning out at a part time minimum wage job? uuuh… fuck that. things don't get better, either. so many people are calling in each day and after friday, a person i count on to be there is going on vacation for two weeks. today the truck crew was cut in half and for the first hour of work, i was convinced this was going to be my last day there. thinking it over i am going to keep going in for a while, but, in every other way, i've…

things don't get better, either. so many people are calling in each day and after friday, a person i count on to be there is going on vacation for two weeks. today the truck crew was cut in half and for the first hour of work, i was convinced this was going to be my last day there. thinking it over i am going to keep going in for a while, but, in every other way, i've checked out.

i'm taking the opportunity to use whatever's left of this job as a lesson. i think avoiding burnout is a good skill to learn for any job. for the coming week, i have two points to work on that i truly believe will make me a better employee in the future:

– stop sympathizing with management: let them worry about it, i don't have to give a shit

– slow down: i won't be pressured to break a sweat

my goal this week and next week

– leave work with enough energy to still enjoy a bike ride

any have any other tips for defending yourself at work?
