with the basic premise that rents, utilities, food, and other costs are all locked in and don't increase.
Doctors get $30/hr. Lawyers, teachers, grocery stockers and cashiers, librarians, gas station attendants, CEOs and stock brokers… all have their pay set at $30/hr.
Why would anybody do…? Septic work I'll grant you I probably wouldn't do if I could get the same pay stocking groceries at the store. But Trash removal or recycling work I might be okay with part time shifts. And maybe part time tutoring, and doing my art part time too.Spread my efforts out in different ways of contributing.
But But But why would anyone go thrugh the years of hard work to be doctors and lawyers if they aren't rewarded for that with pay? You mean like teachers who coincidentally would earn more with this pay scheme ? Who not only go through years of training and their work is brutal compared to most CEOs, yet they often buy supplies out of their own pockets for teaching, and work at least 12 hrs a day 6 days a week, taking work home and starting hours before kids come in to schools. and make less than 40k a year? Why don't you ask them why they do that job? I'd wager you the response will be that it's important work and they love the work of helping kids learn. I think I'd like my doctors motivation to be more inline with that kind of thinking.
Frankly the idea that you can meet costs of living from any job you take, and every job pays the same likely would make outcome of job and career choices more reflective of what peoples talent and what they want to do, are. It would also make it much more clear what absolutely needs doing to keep society running, and which crap work jobs need to be automated, and what services really aught to be the ones that get the big paychecks to fill those positions.
Now this is all hypothetical, and it couldn't really ever be done. But as a means of discussing pay and jobs I do think it's enlightening. A makes way more sense than the idea that the people making and serving people on the daily shouldn't earn a living wage, some Dr Evil Clone gets to earn in a minute what the actual maker of the things he sells won't make in a year.
