It is something I have been noticing a lot recently. You see so many people talk about how college debt shouldn't be canceled because college grads are wealthy and privileged (which isn't true at all) and how people need to stop majoring in useless majors.
As for the first point, if college grads really are privileged, then how come so many people want their debt cancelled? If someone made enough money to pay off their student loans, then the current debate about debt wouldn't exist.
As for the useless majors point, that has no basis in reality either. Almost nobody majors in gender studies. In the University of California, the most popular major at many of the school is computer science. At Berkeley, the school many people like to accuse of for “left-wing brainwashing”, the three most popular majors are literally computer science, electrical engineering, and economics. I don't see how left-wing brainwashing happens in any of those three majors, and I don't see how they are useless.
It makes no sense why people keep believing in those things when neither have any basis in reality, and it shows how things are collapsing as people believe in crazy emotions and rage rather than facts. There is so much gaslighting around, and people believe it. What is so concerning is that even when you show the facts directly in front of someone's face, they refuse to believe it.
We are living in a post-truth world.
